Antique Australian 18ct Gold, Engraved Band Ring
AU $0
An exquisitely patterned band ring from the 1890s, by T. Willis & Co.
The intricate floral & foliate design wraps around the ring, with a short stretch left plain at the rear. This is an original feature of the ring and means that it could be resized without affecting the pattern.
The ring bears full MJA hallmarks along with stamps for both maker & retailer, telling us quite a bit about its provenance and dating it very precisely – very unusual for an Antique Australian piece!
It bears the unicorn’s head stamp for T. Willis & Co, along with a maker’s mark for Warracknabeal jeweller William Hutchinson who was active between 1885-1902. Hutchinson became a prominent figure in Victorian politics after selling his workshop in 1902, making this ring a rare and interesting historic piece!
In superb condition, it would make a marvellously unique wedding band or a beautiful dress ring for any occasion.
